Product Details

White sesame seeds, small and oval-shaped, are packed with nutrients and have been a part of culinary traditions across the world for thousands of years. Known for their delicate nutty flavor and slight crunch, they are used in a wide range of dishes, from savory to sweet. In addition to their pleasing taste, white sesame seeds are rich in essential nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and healthy fats, making them a highly beneficial food for overall health.

One of the key nutritional highlights of white sesame seeds is their high calcium content, which supports bone health and helps prevent osteoporosis. They are also a great source of plant-based protein and contain antioxidants like sesamin and sesamol, which are known to support cardiovascular health and have anti-inflammatory properties. The healthy fats, primarily polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, contribute to better heart health by lowering cholesterol levels.

In culinary uses, white sesame seeds are incredibly versatile. They are commonly sprinkled over salads, stir-fries, and rice dishes to add a crunchy texture and rich flavor. They can be used in baking to garnish bread, rolls, or biscuits, and are often ground into pastes, like tahini, which forms the base of many Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes.

Beyond cooking, white sesame seeds are also valued in traditional medicine for promoting digestion and healthy skin. With their nutrient-packed profile, they make an excellent addition to any balanced diet, contributing both flavor and health benefits.

Til Laddoo with Star White Sesame

Main Ingredients

For Til Laddoo:

  • 1 cup Star White Sesame Seeds
  • 1/2 cup Jaggery (grated or powdered)
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • 2 tablespoons Roasted peanuts (optional, crushed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cardamom powder
  • 1 tablespoon Water (to melt jaggery)

Instruction

Step 1 - Roast the Sesame Seeds

  • Dry roast the Star White Sesame Seeds in a heavy-bottomed pan or kadai over low heat.

  • Stir continuously until the seeds start to pop and turn golden. This should take 4-5 minutes.

  • Once done, transfer them to a plate and let them cool.

Step 2 - Prepare Jaggery Syrup

  • In the same pan, add ghee and grated jaggery with 1 tablespoon of water.

  • Cook on low heat, stirring until the jaggery melts completely and forms a thick, sticky syrup.

  • To check if it's ready: Drop a bit of the syrup in cold water – it should form a firm ball.

Step 3 - Mix and Shape

  • Turn off the heat and quickly add roasted sesame seeds, cardamom powder, and crushed peanuts if using.

  • Mix thoroughly so the jaggery coats all the sesame evenly.

  • While still warm, grease your palms with ghee and shape the mixture into small laddoos.

Step 4 - Cool and Store

  • Let the laddoos cool completely to set.

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature. They stay fresh for up to 10 days.

Tips for the Perfect Til Laddoo

  • Use fresh sesame: Always check that the sesame seeds are not rancid. Fresh Star White Sesame adds a clean, nutty flavor.

  • Work quickly: Once mixed, shape laddoos while warm, or the mixture will harden.

  • For softer laddoos: Add a few teaspoons of coconut or khoya (milk solids) to the mixture before shaping.
