Main Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Ajwain (carom seeds)
  • 2 tablespoons Mishri (rock sugar crystals), crushed
  • 2 teaspoons Dry coconut flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cardamom powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Gulkand (optional for sweetness and aroma)
  • A few drops of edible food color (optional, for vibrant look)

For Sweet Coating (Optional):

  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Water

Instruction

Step 1 - Roast the Seeds

  • Dry roast the fennel seeds, coriander dal, sesame seeds, and ajwain in a pan over a low flame for 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Stir continuously to avoid burning. Let it cool completely.

Step 2 - Prepare Sweet Coating (Optional)

  • In a separate pan, heat sugar and water together until it forms a sticky syrup (1-string consistency).

  • Quickly add the cooled fennel seeds to the syrup and stir to coat them evenly.

  • Transfer immediately to a plate and spread out to avoid clumping. Let it dry for 1-2 hours until the coating hardens.

Step 3 - Mix the Ingredients

  • In a bowl, combine the roasted seeds (coated or plain), crushed mishri, cardamom powder, dry coconut flakes (if using), and gulkand (optional). Mix gently.

  • If desired, add a drop or two of food colouring and toss lightly to give a colourful look.

  • Once everything is well mixed and cooled, transfer your mukhwas to an airtight jar. It’s ready to enjoy!
